    Welcome Families,

Kindergarten is an exciting time when children begin to lay a foundation for a lifetime of learning experiences. It is a year for developing their skills academically, socially and emotionally, while growing through new opportunities in learning to work with others as well as independently. They will make new friends and have a lot of fun while learning through different experiences in the classroom. Our days are filled with educational fun activities that include learning centers, stories, Science based vocabulary infused with alphabetical science projects using words and sound boards, science experiments, phonics, numbers, counting, spanish and writing as well as expressing ourselves through conversation while we are involved in many of these activities. What a pleasure it will be to have your child in my classroom.  I look forward to making many fun memories together throughout the year.

I have an exciting year planned full of opportunities for learning and growing. Your child will be studying about many aspects of life including; self, home, family, and community throughout the year in addition to the Standard Core Curriculum.

Behavior: With regard to behavior, your child is expected to act in a manner that will ensure safety and consideration for the safety and feelings of others.

Arrival/Dismissal: Students will be dropped off at the front door of the school and brought to their Kindergarten classroom. At 12:50, students are to be picked up in the back of our classroom.  We will exit through the back door that leads into the rear courtyard by the gated area in the back. Please wait outside behind the gated area of the courtyard for your child to be dismissed to you.  Be sure to arrive a few minutes before 12:50 as they can’t wait to see you at the end of the day.

Homework: Homework will be sent home and returned in their homework folder. It is essential that the student try to complete the homework independently to the best of their ability as it will often times be a “re-teach” of what was covered that day/week in school.

Folders: These folders go home every day. Please be sure to empty your child's folder each evening and send it back to school the next day. In the morning the folders will be checked for any notes to the teacher.  Your child’s weekly work and important school wide information will be in their folder.

Snack: Please send your child with a daily snack and drink packed separate from their lunch. Water bottles are also an option. Please make sure the student’s name is on it. Children should bring a quick, healthy snack and drink.  NO NUTS OR TREE NUTS PLEASE!  Please be sure to check the food labels before packing their snack and drink.  We really appreciate your keeping our classroom safe for those who have allergies.

Birthdays:  Edible treats may NOT be sent in for the class! You may donate a birthday book to the library or send something that is not edible. I will give them a birthday crown and we can sing at snack time.  Please feel free to pack a special snack for your child on their birthday if you would like.

Communication: Thankfully, Kindergarten has a high Parent/Guardian to Teacher interaction. A simple note in your child’s folder is also an effective way to get information to me. The best way is email: jjenne@hillsdaleschools.com. If it is an urgent message during the school day please call the school as well as send us an email! You can also call the school and leave a message for me to call you.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.

NO PERSONAL TOYS are permitted in school, thank you in advance for your support with this.
