With support and guidance, every child can learn.  And you can provide that support by working to build your child's self confidence in learning.  Use the following tips to help your child develop self esteem and self-confidence.
    • Praise your child every time you see something positive.  Be specific about your praise by telling him or her what you liked and why.
    • Set realistic goals for your child.
    • Be patient with your child when he or she tries something new.  Remind your child that "practice makes perfect."
    • Let your child learn things on his or her own whenever possible.  Children spend a lot of time trying to make sense of their world.
    • Display your child's creations such as drawings, paintings, or writings.
    • Photograph your child engaged in learning and display the photos around the house.
    • Encourage your child in a positive way to try again when he or she is unsuccessful or frustrated.
    • Spend time together.  Work, play, talk, or just be together for a little while each day.
    • Through words and hugs, let your child know that you believe in him or her.
    • Remind your child that it is "okay" to make mistakes.
