Welcome to the Vocal/General Music Program
for Grades 5 through 8!
5th Grade: General Music consists of varied activities that include clapping, singing, music games, and total participation in learning basic music concepts. Although they will only have General Music class for a half year, all students will participate in Chorus for the entire school year. There will be one BIG Concert this year- May 23, 2012!
6th Grade: These students will learn how to play Orff instruments! They also have the option to join the Intermediate Chorus. If they do elect to join Chorus, then they will have music for the entire year. Their Music cycle class only lasts approximately one month. This is the first time that they are allowed to audition for the school musical!
{xylophone} 7th Grade: The 7th Grade curriculum teaches these students to really LISTEN to music - of all genres! They may decide to join the Advanced Chorus, and may participate in the musical.As do the 6th graders, they will only have Music cycle class for about one month.
8th Grade: These advanced music students will learn about the 5 elements of Music: rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color, and form. They will review and practice with Orff instruments and keyboards. They will write their own piece of music using their instruments. They may join Advanced Chorus and this is their last chance to participate in the school musical- one of the highlights of their 8th Grade year!
