The Technology Department is responsible for the administration & maintenance of the Hillsdale Public School District technology infrastructure. In addition, we are responsible for overseeing all educational technology initiatives, purchases, training, and support agreements.
The Technology Department is responsible for over 300 desktop computers, 250 Laptop Computers, 12 servers and variety of networking and video equipment. The Core of our network is a Cisco 4507R switch. We run HP procurve switches on the edge. We have a Meru Wireless network that consists of Access Points and a Controller. Our network supports A,B,G and N. Our network is protected by a Sonicwall firewall, Barracuda Spam Filter and Symantec Enpoint Protection antivirus.
Each classroom contains a teacher workstation wired to a mounted television set for desktop viewing. 1-4 student stations are available in each classroom. Every classroom has a network printer and access to shared color printers located in common areas. Our middle school is equipped with a television studio, that streams a live morning television show each day to every classroom through our Video Furnace network appliance. Currently there are interactive SMART boards in each of our schools as well as projectors, wireless slates and document cameras available for classroom use.
Our district operates a Wide Area Network allowing for data sharing and network administration for all 4 locations. Our servers run on Windows Server 2003 and Server 2000. Each school is fully networked with every classroom having network, Internet, and video access. Our middle school is has a managed wireless A,B,G,N network, with 100% coverage throughout the school. Our elementary schools have 75% wireless G coverage. Each faculty member has a unique username and password to access our network. They each receive a secured space on the schools server for file storage. Each faculty member has their own section on our district website which they maintain. All faculty members have an email address. There are shared student accounts that provide access to network share folders for file management. This allows for Administration, Faculty and Students to have access to their files from any computer in the district.
The technology department also provides ongoing professional development for faculty, staff and administration. We have a commitment to advancing the integration of technology in curriculum and to integrate it into administrative tasks to improve our day to day operations.
